How we respond to a situation depends a great deal on our past. I have followed lately how the Ultra-Orthodox Jews in Israel have responded to the COVID-19 restrictions the state of Israel has put in place. Their responses may seem strange and even irrational if you don’t know a bit of their history. Understanding a people’s story and how it has shaped them can be a bit help in knowing how to communicate with them, especially in stressful situations.
If you read the article, spend a moment afterwards considering how things might have been done differently. How could the Israeli authorities have communicated about COVID-19 and the restrictions in a way that the Haredi could have heard?
